Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
